Language of Instruction & Acceptance Requirements

Language of Instruction

English has become the language of science world-wide. The Nihal European University in Sudan would like to accommodate this current development and will therefore offer its courses in English. By doing so, career opportunities for the graduates of the Nihal European University in Sudan would open up world-wide. Learning another European language, preferably German, French, Italian or Spanish or would be a requirement to be fulfilled by all students in order to give them the opportunity to take part in an exchange program or a higher level of education at a European university. Further, the reception of European culture and research literature requires some knowledge of the respective language(s).

The students should be able to achieve the required proficiency of English within a one-year special preparation course. This is comparable to the preparation year that German institutes of higher education offer their foreign applicants. Not only would the students acquire general communication skills in the foreign language, they would also receive language training in required areas related to the course they intend to enrol in. This way the students will be able to understand the lectures and seminars they attend in their subjects.

Acceptance Requirements

The Nihal European University in Sudan would require all applicants have one of the following degrees:

  • The Sudanese Higher Education Entrance Qualification (Al-Thanaweya Al-Amma)
  • The German Higher Education Entrance Qualification (Deutsche allgemeine Hochschulreife, i.e. Abitur)
  • The American High School Diploma
  • The French Higher Education Entrance Qualification (Baccalaureat de l’Enseignement Secondaire)
  • The English Higher Education Entrance Qualification (GCSEIGCSE)
  • The International Baccalaureate
  • Other higher education entrance qualifications

The final grade point average (GPA), however, should not be a deciding factor for an acceptance or rejection. More important would be the outstanding scholastic of the person and the extent of the potential student’s abilities and creativity.

The philosophy of the Nihal European University in Sudan should be to focus on the students’ strengths, to enhance them, and to allow them to show these in the application process.

An admittance test should be developed which measures the applicant’s individual abilities and strengths in the particular subject that the student wants to study.

Interviews would ideally also be conducted in order to build an impression of the applicant.
